Qcells is a global leading energy solutions provider with more than 20 years of history and financial stability

1999 Qcells founded in Germany

Qcells was founded in Thalheim, Germany, employing over 2,000 people. After Qcells establishment, other companies opened facilities in the surrounding area, becoming what is todays’ known as Germany’s “Solar Valley”.

2001 Set new standard with 6-inch mono cell

The company produced its first working polycrystalline solar cell called Q6. Later on, Qcells introduced its first monocrystalline cell, Q6M.

2004 Set new standard with Q6L 6-inch cell

Qcells set a new standard for the industry with Q6L (156x156mm) 6-inch cell, which provided better performance and maximum utilization of the module’s surface space.

2008 World-first company to ensure Hot-Spot-free cells with Hot-Spot Protect

Qcells became the world-first company to ensure Hot-Spot-free cells with Hot-Spot Protect, a procedure to ensures that Qcells’ solar cells are 100% free from hot spots that could heat up and affect the quality of the module.

2009 Qcells Australia was founded

Based in Sydney, and with products specifically designed and tested for Australian conditions to ensure optimal performance

2010 Introduced world-first full-square monocrystalline cell

Qcells introduced the first full-square monocrystalline Q6L cell in the solar industry, which provides additional 3% power output compared to pseudo-square mono-crystalline solar cells.

2011 World-record efficiency of 19.5% in multicrystalline cell

Q.ANTUM technology set a new efficiency record of 19.5% for polycrystalline solar cells, as confirmed by the Fraunhofer Institute (ISE).

2012 World-first company to commercialize PERC technology

Qcells began producing PERC solar cells based on Q.ANTUM technology. Qcells was also the first manufacturer to successfully participate in the Quality Tested program of the VDE, a German independent certification institute, setting a new standard for quality assurance.

2017 Launch of Q.ANTUM DUO Technology

Based on Qcells original Q.ANTUM Technology and Half-cell technology with multi busbars and wiring interconnection, Q.ANTUM DUO Technology reduces both electrical and optical losses.

2020 First solar module manufacturer to pass new QCPV certification

Qcells sealed the first industry certification for a new Quality Controlled PV program from TUV Rheinland. This particular program was chosen not only because it is the most extensive and stringent testing scheme in the PV industry, but it is also the only certification in the entire industry to involve independent and random onsite testing from running production, as well as regular material testing.
